Elite Squad the Enemy Within
Hailing from Brazil, Elite Squad tells the enthralling tale of
corruption of both police and twisted politics. Heading up an elite
division of the police force, Captain Nascimento gets caught up in a
storm of violence, power plays and plotting after a riot at a prison
gets thrown squarely on his shoulders.
This
is a story that is brilliantly told with excellent pacing and great
acting from the cast. It reminded me quite a bit for some reason of
another classic, Serpico which is also a story of corruption where the
police are as bad if not worse than those they are meant to be locking
up.
This
movie amazed me with the amount of violence and brutality that is
portrayed. I think that if police had the shoot to kill powers that the
"Skulls" do over there that either it would be war or crims would just
give up. Massive gun battles rage in the streets in scenes better suited
to Iraq or Afghanistan, with corrupt cops summarily executing those who
pose a threat.
I
utterly enjoyed this film and would most certainly recommend it. The
quality of the audio and video is good, and the subtitles well presented
and easy to follow along with the action, which at times is at breakneck
speed. The DVD is well rounded out with a host of behind the scenes
features and cast interviews but is worth the purchase for the feature
alone.
