Dukes of Hazzard (2005)
Yeehaw!
It’s funny you know, I was apprehensive
when I got this disc as the movie got a slapping when it was at the
cinemas, and I thought that it would be crud. However…. What we did wind
up with was a neat little movie that was pure fluff but I enjoyed it the
whole way through.
For those of you who might not have seen
the original TV series, the Dukes of Hazzard was a show based around the
misadventures of cousins Bo and Luke and their fight against the evil
Boss Hogg. Each episode would involve driving around in their car, the
General Lee and it was all pretty straight forward and very enjoyable.
Step to the movie that we’re checking out here and everyone has been
modernised and the boys are a lot quirkier which I found a lot more
enjoyable with Bo Duke almost having an unhealthy relationship with the
General Lee.
The storyline here is that Boss Hogg wants
to strip mine Hazzard County in order to exploit the coal resources that
lie underneath to line his own pockets of course. The boys have to stop
that plus Bo has to win the Hazzard Country rally as well, as you do!
Ably assisted by the gorgeous Daisy Duke
played by Jessica Simpson and loveable Uncle Jesse (Willie Nelson), the
boys are on a zany adventure with the odds against them growing by the
minute as Hogg (Burt Reynolds) works his machinations against them. The
quality of the video is great, audio is great and anything with Black
Betty in it is generally pretty damn good too.
Fans of the series will be rolling in their
graves most likely and if you were expecting a continuation of the show
that you loved, forget about it. There is not a lot of filler here but
you know what? For mindless fun this did the job for me. 106 minutes of
non stop action, fun, thrills and spills and one of the best muscle cars
ever to grace a movie screen! Well worth the watch if that is your cup
of tea and I think that we all enjoy some mindless fun at times.
Rounded out with some extras that are a bit
of fun, my personal favourites were launching the General Lee and the
blooper reel. I think they could have played it up a bit more and I
noticed that the bloopers had a PG13 rating (United States). Upon
further checking online I see that the USA scored a unrated version that
included nudity and different bloopers. Let’s see what happens here.
I can recommend this one for a good bit of
fun. |
