Doctor Who: The Dominators
This
classic Doctor Who story stars Patrick Troughton as the Doctor who is
about to have one of those rare holidays for our time travelling hero. But as we all know, holidays
never work for the Doctor and he unwittingly ends up saving the Dulcians from the
nefarious Dominators and their robots, the Quarks. Unfortunately this is
the beginning of the end!
The biggest problem with Doctor
Who: The Dominators is that it’s quite boring at times and even the
villains in the story are really over the top and just plain horrible.
The special effects are also another problem, especially the “vicious”
looking Dominators and their small robots that would not look out of
place on Play School.
The only highlights of this DVD release are the
special features and even those who are interviewed in the creation of
this story are almost apologising for making such a drab and dreary
Doctor Who episode. Although it may have worked in its day, it’s
difficult to compare the original Doctor Who mythology to the modern
incarnations but then again, Troughton wasn’t really a favourite among
the Doctor Who fans either.
Even so, this is a Doctor Who disc only for the
fanatics only, as opposed to the collectors or fans of the current franchise.
