Dad's Army (Series 3)
Originally shown in 1969, Dads Army Series 3
continues the exploits of the boys in His Majesties Armed forces during
the War. Filled with subtle humour, the show will be lost on some
viewers, as it is a bit old in the tooth. If you take it in context
though and just appreciate the clever writing, most people could get
something out of it.
Being the Home Guard, the lads are England’s last
defence against the Nazi Hordes should the regular army fail abroad.
The Home Guard was made up of volunteers who for whatever reason did not
serve overseas. The funny thing about this series is the relationships
between the men who make up the group in this series.
Some of the guys in this series are so old that they
can barely walk let alone defend the nation!
Remember, the British even now have a bit of a Caste
system and when someone lower in caste is in charge, certain people get
upset! It’s a real show of self control to not just get on ones soapbox
and dress the commoners down.
Possibly my favourite episode on this disc is War
Dance, which addresses this caste problem with some hilarity when the
pompous Mainwaring is a right ass when he thinks that Pike is going to
show up to the Platoon Dance with a commoner.
Episodes on this disc are:
The Armoured Might of Lance Corporal Jones
Battle School
The Lion Has Phones
The Bullet is Not for Firing
Something Nasty in the Vault
Room at the Bottom
Big Guns
The Day The Balloon Went Up
War Dance
Menace from the Deep
Branded
Man Hunt
No Spring for Frazer
Sons of the Sea
The
quality is surprisingly good on this disc considering its age and the
audio isn’t too bad either. Fans will enjoy the limited content that in
on the extras and the rest of you will enjoy some great comedic moments.
