Clarkson Powered Up
If you’ve ever watched Top Gear and thought “I wish
those other two guys would disappear and we could just have an hour or
Jeremy reviewing cars I could never hope to own” then boy do I have the
DVD for you!
Clarkson (Powered Up)
is the Top Gear you have when you don’t want any Top Gear. It’s
apparently a yearly event where Clarkson goes through the cars that he’s
been particularly fond of in the past year and drives them around a
track very fast. So in that way it’s not very different from Top Gear at
all. It’s filmed like Top Gear (beautifully) it references Top Gear but
it’s just Clarkson yelling “Power!” as he slides through a corner
backwards in a million dollar supercar.
Unlike a lot of people, I actually like Jeremy
Clarkson but there’s no doubt in my mind that what makes Top Gear one of
the highest rating TV shows on earth. It is the interplay between the
three hosts, that and the challenges, remember the one where they tried
to send a Reliant Robin into space!? And there really is such a thing as
too much Jeremy Clarkson. Fortunately even Clarkson knows this and
limits the DVD to an hour which either represents poor value for money
or tremendous value for money depending on your perspective.
That said the cars are beautiful and if you even have
a passing interest in super cars there will be something here for you to
drool over. I myself was in desperate need to a sponge after Clarkson
showed us the Eagle Spitfire a new version of the E-type Jaguar.
All in all it’s interesting for car fanatics but it’s
no Top Gear.
Special Features: A Behind the scenes
documentary….why would you?
Video: Like everything Top Gear produces it looks
amazing, the DVD is beautifully produced and shows off the fact that the
Top Gear boys really know how to film a car.
Audio: Just stereo but that’s more than
enough to hear Clarkson and also more than enough to hear the engines of
the cars.
