In
this spectacular six-part travel series, Tim Bowden takes us on one
of the last great adventures – a voyage to the Australian Antarctic
Territory.
Tim Bowden, a popular former host of ABC TV's Backchat program, has
had an extensive career as a newspaper journalist, foreign
correspondent and broadcaster on radio and television.
Over a period of two months Tim visited all four of Australia's
Antarctic stations at Macquarie Island, Casey, Davis and Mawson. The
result is a fascinating “behind the scenes” look at what Australians
are doing in Antarctica – a wild a beautiful icy wilderness that has
attracted adventurers and scientists since the days of Scott,
Shackleton and Mawson.
Highlights include spectacular footage of Australia's only
ice-breaking ship Aurora Australis charging through the pack ice, a
visit to a long hidden Emperor Penguin colony, the day after it was
discovered and rare glimpses of wild elephant seals and albatrosses
on sub-Antarctic Macquarie Island.
