Blassreiter Complete Series Part 2
Episodes 13 - 24
The second collection
Blassreiter arrives on DVD, thanks to
Siren Visual, one of Australia's leading
anime distributors and best of all, most of the Siren Visual anime releases are
a little left out of centre. So expect the unexpected! This DVD features
episodes 13 to 24 as viewers are once introduced to this world on the
brink of destructions thanks to its invasion of the demoniacs.
Fortunately one man stands in their way of total destruction.
With a genetically modified virus that is rampant throughout society,
the man in question is called Joseph Jobson who may be the only key to saving humanity.
Somehow Joseph Jobson has managed to thwart the virus in
his body and he can even control these demonic powers. Jumping on his
motorcycle, he is definitely riding to not only save his life but the
world as the Blassreiter or the pale rider comes to the rescue.
One contrast to the previous story is that stories seems longer as
opposed to the sometimes self contained episodes from season one.
However there is a lot more explanations in this season such as the
history of Joseph when he a child where he lived in a violent orphanage.
Needless to
say, the life of Joseph as a child was considerably harsh, especially
through the physical abuse he endured, however this in turn has made him
into the man he is today. We also discover more information about
Joseph's sister, Sasha which does bring joy into his world,
unfortunately when her research is abused by doctor Xargin, we learn
that her research was responsible for the virus that has decimated the
world.
As the series progresses, more information is gathered about the XAT (Xenegenesis
Assault Team)
which have been defending mankind from the demoniacs and then the
emergence of Zwolf, a secret organisation who wish to unite the world
under their almost right wing religious order.
From twists and turns
such as Amanda's so-called alliance with Zwolf, this XAT warrior throws
a spanner in the works, especially with Joseph as his job becomes even
harder with this "betrayal". With three sections battling each other, XAT,
Zwolf and the nefarious Doctor Xargin who "controls" the Demoniacs, season 2
of Blassreiter is definitely an action packed ride until the epic
conclusion. Newcomers will be confused as all hell but fans will enjoy
the ride of another 11 episodes.
Video/Audio & Special Features
The video quality of Blassreiter is
presented in 16:9 widescreen with vibrant colours, sharp images and deep
blacks. The CGI looks great and there was only a little bit of
artifacting. Even though you cannot beat Blu-ray releases, for DVD,
Blassreiter does look good. The audio of Blassreiter supports both
English and Japanese that uses the 5.1 mix well. The dialogue is clear
and crisp and the music adds to the overall enjoyment aspect. When the
battles do begin, your surround sound does get a little workout but
compared to some other releases, it's a little lacklustre at times but
still does the job. No extras.
In the end, Blassreiter Complete Series Part 2 is a decent anime series that contains a kick
ass story and characters who are well flashed out. The action scenes are
a treat to watch and the new organisation called Zwolf does add more intrigue to the story, even though at times, the story does become
a little convoluted. Let's hope that there are more Pale Rider stories
in the future because this story rocks. |
