Blake's 7: Series 2
Feature:
Blake's 7 is back with more of the same high quality story with same low
quality production. Classed as a space opera, Blake's 7 achieved a cult
following for it's tight scripts, great acting and I guess in part for
it's hokey-ness.
The adventure continues in this series with Blake and Co. in their
stolen craft still trying to usurp the Federation at every turn. The new
craft, The Liberator is a part of the new series and serves it's crew
well. Terry Nation, better known as the father of the Daleks is at the
helm again, leading the way with big hair and big guns every step
through this romp. Overall the series is a great piece of television,
however it really shows it's age and i think that younger viewers who
are used to the production values on today's shows will simply view it
as crap whilst missing out on a great storyline.
Audio & Video: One of the things that I always find funny about
this show, the same as I do with the Doctor Who series is that I can
tell what show it is from the audio alone. There is something about the
recordings that stands out. In this edition though, having just had it's
25th anniversary, the entire set has had a meticulous overhaul of sound
and vision from a very sad looking master set that's been pulled out of
the dusty archives. It's an impressive job and one that shows that the
team are really committed to a sterling release.
For you geeks who love this series, you are in for a treat. Village
Roadshow and BBC have gone all out to make sure that you are well and
truly looked after with an absolute barrage of extras to satisfy all but
the most hardcore of fans and even I don't know what you would be
wanting! I liked the feature Mat's Models which showed model work from
the series and also the trailer for season three and a certain scene
there that hints that not all relationships are going to stay the same!
Highly recommended for fans of the title and television space opera
buffs!
