This cute children’s movie revolves
around an extremely spoilt Chihuahua called Chloe (Drew Barrymore)
who gets thoroughly pampered by her owner, played by Jamie Lee
Curtis.
Unfortunately for Chloe, things go astray when her owner’s
niece (Piper Perabo) is asked to look after her while she goes on
vacation. Forced to go on a holiday to Mexico, Chloe becomes lost
and eventually ends up in the notorious “dog fights”.
There, Chloe
meets a former police German shepherd whom assists Chloe in being
reunited by her family. Unfortunately the nefarious individuals who
run the “dog fights” have also discovered that Chloe belongs to a
rich heiress and thus begins a game of cat and mouse.
Beverly Hills
Chihuahua is a “cute” comedy that children will enjoy, however for
more mature viewers, the movie is quite clichéd, predictable and
forced at times. There are some great one-liners that assist with
the plot, however at the end of the day, it’s a little contrived.
Apart from Piper Perabo and the voice of Drew Barrymore, Beverly
Hills Chihuahua features a plethora of greats that include Andy Garcia, George
Lopez, Cheech Marin and even Plácido Domingo.
With decent video and
audio quality, Beverly Hills Chihuahua is a visually quite
impressive, especially with the backdrop of Mexico, unfortunately
the main story is a little lacking.
In conclusion,
Beverly Hills Chihuahua is about a Paris Hilton-like dog who
eventually comes to understand that the world is not all about
luxury and pampering.
