Bangkok Dangerous
Based on the original
film, Bangkok Dangerous, this Hollywood remake is actually an impressive
version compared to the original Thai movie and with Nicolas Cage as the
star billing, you immediately know that you are in for a treat and
this film is is no exception to that rule.
Directed by the original
brothers of the original, the Pang brothers, this is definitely heavily
orientated with action and features the classic story about a man trying
to leave the dangerous world that he has created
For those who have seen
the original movie, myself included, the only noticeable different is
that the main character is from American and not Thai plus the story
is a little stronger and more refined than the original.
The itself story
revolves around Joe (Cage), a mercenary who is about to retire after his
last big hit but as fate would dictate, things don't always go according
to plan. Although the movie is oozing with B-grade goodness, Cage adds
to the ambience of the film with his voice over that only adds to the
gritty storyline.
With years of experience as a mercenary, his biggest
flaw was to ignore his own rules and he eventually winds up with
a beautiful pharmacy worker called Fon (Charlie Yeung) after sharing a close moment
together.
Of course, Joe's past always catches up with him as the viewer
is taken on a true rollercoaster ride that mirrors some great Eastern
and Western movies such as the Transporter. Although the movie is oozing
with action, the scenes are quite impressive which are definitely the
highlights of this movie and even though the plot is oozing with clichés
and predictability, seeing Cage kick ass in this exotic locale is always an
enjoyable experience.
Definitely for those looking for a mindless action
movie! |
