Ex Machina goes beyond the original
incarnation of Appleseed and revolves a variety of plots that
include a “mad scientist” who wishes to create the ultimate
man-robot union which is shunned upon by society and Briarios, a man attempting to discover whether he is still human.
At
its core, Ex Machina is the ultimate anime movie with over the top
story lines and characters that involve non-stop action that one cannot help
but become immersed in this classic anime movie.
Where the movie
does shine is through the visuals which are extremely detailed as
are the character designs which looks phenomenal on a digital TV. At
the end of the day, Ex Machina proves a frightening picture of the
future with a world gone mad and provides enough twists and turns to
keep you thoroughly entertained from start to finish.
Video wise,
this is probably one of the most impressive anime movies that I’ve
had the pleasure to watch with vibrant colours and exceptional
picture quality that is matched perfectly with Dolby Digital 5.1
surround sound.
When it comes to extras, the collections features an
interesting featurettes on the history of Appleseed and how Eastern
and Western pop cultures have jointly influenced each other. Add
into an interesting documentary on how Ex Machine was created and a
decent commentary by Jerry Black and Joseph Chou and it nicely
rounds this movie out.
