Vampires are the in thing at the moment and even National Geographic have jumped on the "fangbanger" bandwagon with this collection of two Vampire Documentaries entitled National Geographic: Vampire Forensics. Both these documentaries go into some detail about the origin, history and even the Hollywood spin of these myths and unlike some dry and boring documentaries, this one really has some <insert pun> bite intended. The first documentary entitled "Is It Real Vampires?" looks at the world of vampires from the inspirational novel of Bram Stoker's Dracula that made vamps a household name and traces vampirism throughout history. It's very interesting and gory at the same time to learn of the different vampire myths from around the world and how it has influenced a new generation of vampire lovers with some of them believing that they are the undead and must drink blood. The second part is entitled Vampires in Venice which sounds like a great name for a musical but in actual fact looks at an ancient mystery within the city of Venice. Upon discovering a mass grave of bodies from the bubonic plague, one body intrigued specialists. This skeleton had a brick forced into its mouth! Upon further investigation, Doctor Matteo Borrini begins the search of this person only to discover that this person was an alleged vampire. How cool is that it? Video, Audio & Special Features Once again, National Geographic release a good quality video and audio release that although doesn't look like the Hollywood action movies of today, it's still quite acceptable and looks great on FULL HD. Unfortunately there are no special features on this release which is a staple of documentaries from this stable. In conclusion, Vampire Forensics is an exciting documentary that pushes the boundaries of this phenomenon and is a wonderful journey of vampirism from its birth to modern times. If you are a fan of vampires, than this is a must have documentary for your collection which will give you a thoroughly enjoyable insight the entity known as vampires. It may even leave you questioning the myth which might blur your reality... do vampires exist? |
