Directed by David Koepp, Ghost Town is a predictable and "quaint" romantic comedy that stars Ricky Gervais as Bertram Pincus (not pink ass), a dentist who simply cannot stand people. During a routine colonoscopy, Pincus dies, however is revived by his specialists, only to discover that he can see ghosts. Although believing that this is in his mind, he soon discovers that these ghosts will not leave him alone until he helps them out. One ghost in particular, Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear) latches onto Pincus in order to help him prevent his wife Gwen (Tea Leoni) from marrying a man whom he believes is wrong for her. Needless to say, Pincus decides to help Frank in order to stop these ghosts from pestering him and of course, he starts having feelings for Gwen. Although the movie has its moments, Gervais seems to be wasted and at times stereotyped in this role as the pompous British prat who after what appears to be a lifetime of hating people, somehow changes his tune when he believes he has discovered the love of his life. Of course, when things start going good for Pincus, it goes sour, only to lead to the predictable ending. Ghost Town had some funny moments like the naked Ghost and Kinnear as Frank, however at times I found the plot a little boring and uninspiring. It's definitely one of those clichéd Hollywood films. Definitely one to rent before you buy.
