Unboxing & Setup

Setting up the S2725QC is a breeze – simply attach the stand to the base, connect the power, and plug in your display cable. The monitor’s design is both modern and practical. Its slim bezels lend themselves well to seamless multi-monitor setups, while the adjustable stand offers height, tilt, and swivel adjustments for optimal ergonomic comfort. Weighing in at 6.71kg with the stand and cables, the monitor feels substantial and well-built, especially when adjusting its physical position.

The clean white finish on our review unit is a welcome aesthetic touch.

While the integrated dual 5W speakers provide decent audio output, those seeking a more immersive soundscape will likely opt for external speakers. Dell does include an audio enhancement feature that improves the built-in sound, but it still lacks significant “oomph.” However it’s great for those looking to minimise clutter on their desks as no external speakers are needed.

Usability is a strong point, thanks to the intuitive on-screen display (OSD) menu. Navigating the settings is straightforward, allowing for easy customization. The inclusion of Picture-in-Picture (PiP) and Picture-by-Picture (PbP) modes significantly enhances multitasking capabilities, particularly when managing multiple input sources. Furthermore, the Dell Display and Peripheral Manager, a user-friendly Windows application, allows for easy tweaking of settings and storage of various display profiles.

The centerpiece of the S2725QC is its vibrant 27-inch 4K UHD IPS panel, delivering a sharp resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. This high pixel density translates to crisp and detailed visuals, making it ideal for tasks ranging from intricate photo and video editing to enjoying high-definition content. A notable upgrade is the monitor’s refresh rate of up to 120Hz, a significant step up from the standard 60Hz found in many 4K displays. This higher refresh rate results in noticeably smoother motion, particularly beneficial for gaming and fast-paced video playback (like 120fps content). To further enhance the gaming experience, the monitor incorporates AMD FreeSync Premium technology, effectively minimizing screen tearing and stuttering – a key feature for gamers.

Color accuracy is another area where the S2725QC shines, boasting 99% sRGB coverage. This ensures vibrant and true-to-life colors, making it a reliable choice for creative professionals demanding precise color reproduction. The monitor’s brightness level of 350 nits is adequate for most indoor environments, though it might struggle in very brightly lit spaces. The contrast ratio of 1500:1 offers decent differentiation between light and dark areas, although it doesn’t achieve the deep blacks characteristic of OLED panels.

A standout feature of the S2725QC is its versatile USB-C connectivity. Supporting DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode and delivering up to 65W of power, it offers a convenient single-cable solution for video, data transfer, and charging for compatible laptops. The inclusion of two HDMI 2.1 ports, supporting 4K resolution at 120Hz, ensures compatibility with the latest gaming consoles like the PlayStation 5/Pro and Xbox Series X|S. Additional connectivity options include USB-A ports and a 3.5mm audio jack, providing ample flexibility for connecting various peripherals. Dell has clearly considered a wide range of connectivity needs.

Putting the monitor through its paces with games like Star Outlaws, Call of Duty Black Ops 6, The Crew Motofest, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle revealed fantastic visuals, characterized by bright colors, deep blacks, and the absence of screen tearing. Watching films and TV series on the 4K display was equally enjoyable. For everyday Windows tasks, the monitor produced sharp text and crisp images, proving particularly adept for photo manipulation in Photoshop. In short, the display performs admirably across various applications and integrates seamlessly with both the PlayStation 5 (Assassin’s Creed Shadows) and the Xbox Series X (Indiana Jones and the Great Circle).

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, the Dell 27 Plus 4K USB-C Monitor (S2725QC) stands out as a well-rounded display, excelling in delivering sharp visuals, vibrant colors, and versatile connectivity. Its high refresh rate and FreeSync support make it an attractive option for gamers, while its color accuracy and 4K resolution cater effectively to creative professionals. While it might not offer the absolute deepest blacks of OLED or the highest peak brightness, it strikes a commendable balance between performance and value. Whether for work, gaming, or streaming, the S2725QC is a reliable and stylish addition to any setup.
