Deadpool Team Up #1 Review
Summary: Wade Wilson might be the man you go to when you need a hired hand, but sometimes things are too big for him to tackle on his own... just as well he has some friends (and acquaintances) who can lend him a hand.

Dungeons and Deadpool
With the world wide hit of Deadpool and Wolverine, what better time to dive into some Deadpool comic fun? Deadpool Team Up #1 sees the merc with the mouth caught up in something that might be too big for him to handle… fortunately he’s not alone.
Writing
This starts off seeming like it’s going to be a parody of Dungeons and Dragons, then it starts to lean more into the Lord of the Rings realm… ultimately… it’s pure Deadpool. Let’s face it… who else could get themselves caught up in something that can only be undone by delivering dragon eggs? But there’s a lot to take in here and we hit the ground running, we are then jumped back to what leads to the fiery escapades and by the time we are caught up… all hell seems to be breaking loose. The approach to the story seems to start with action… and don’t stop! We do get a few moments to catch our breath and a hint at the potential for further action towards the end of this issue and who will be joining our wordy warrior.
Artwork
I’m a big fan of nice clear panels, a lot can be going on, as long as the line work is clean enough to show me what’s going on. Rob’s lines here are nice and crisp, coupled with a colour pallet that lets the characters stand out and shine. The tones give a clear indication of what time of day it is, where we are and generally what’s going on, without compromising that clarity. Blue tones indicate night scenes without causing the characters to look washed out. Lovely work.
Final Thoughts
As I mentioned… this issue hits the ground running and it hints at no reduction in that pace. This feels like it is setting up the bigger picture… but it’s already crammed a lot into the pages to start with. If you love a bit of Deadpool but enjoy the thought of some other Marvel characters sharing the pages then grab a copy… it could be a fun, wild ride ahead!
