Reviewer: James Wright
Wi-Fi extenders have been around for a few years now but D-Link have gone the extra yard with their latest product, the Wi-Fi Audio Extender (DCH-M225) that not only extends your network range but allows you to stream music from your smartphone into a speaker that is connected to this device. This means you could be on the other side of the house and wirelessly transfer music from your Smart Phone to a speaker connected to this device.
The D-Link Wi-Fi Audio Extender is also quite small (5.5 x 4.2 x 5.7cm) and looks like a traditional double adapter. The product also boasts 300Mbps with a range of up to 100metres that is ideal to not only extend your Wi-Fi connection but also to strengthen it. It’s definitely far superior than your humble Bluetooth connection!

Installation
Installation is almost non-existent! A nifty feature about the installation process is that if you own a D-Link modem/router, you can use the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button to connect to your network without a convoluted and sometimes difficult installation process. You basically just press the WPS button and voila… connection established for not just Wi-Fi but also audio.
If you don’t have a product that supports WPS, there are a few more steps needed such as directly logging into the Wi-Fi Audio Extender via a web browser in order to connect it to your network. Once connected to your network, the Wi-Fi Audio Extender will stop flashing yellow and turn green, indicating its connected. In terms of performance, the Wi-Fi Audio Extender worked well throughout my home but there was a slight delay in streaming but this was on par with our Apple TV in this delay.
The D-Link Wi-Fi Audio Extender also supports DLNA and AirPlay that comes with a 3.5mm audio port which makes it compatible with most audio devices. D-Link ensure that the product is compatible with IEEE 802.11 n/g/b, supports WPA/WPA2, WEP & WPS security plus has a frequency range of 2.4 to 2.48Ghz.
Final Thoughts?
The D-Link Wi-Fi Audio Extender (DCH-M225) is not only affordable but successfully increases your Wi-Fi network in the home or small office that adds the great ability to stream music directly to a speaker system. The only thing lacking from this product is a 3.5mm cable but given the price, it’s almost a moot point. Nonetheless, the D-Link Wi-Fi Audio Extender is a great little product if you want to stream music to other parts of your home to older sound systems.
