Midrange Power

To quote legendary rapper Slim Shady… guess who’s back? Crucial is back in Australia! And although they never left, their PR presence has been absent. Thankfully their back and Impulse Gamer was given the opportunity to check out their new Crucial Pro Overclocking DDR5-6000 32GB Dual-Channel Memory Kit that has been designed for both gamers, PC enthusiasts and let’s add streamers into that mix as well!

So if you’re looking to push your system in terms of overclocking, the Crucial Pro Overclocking DDR5-6000 32GB Dual-Channel Memory Kit offers users a solution (hopefully a Super Mario power-up) to get the most out of your DDR5 RAM with a RRP cost of $109AUD (August 2024) that is excellent value for money. Crucial is also a trusted brand with over 45-years of experience in memory.

Warranty & returns

  • Warranty: Limited Lifetime

As you can see, the Crucial Pro Overclocking DDR5-6000 32GB Dual-Channel Memory Kit provides a range of stock profiles in order to get the best out of the RAM plus your system. However if you’re a PC enthusiast gamer, it also allows for overclocking.

In terms of aesthetics, they mirror previous RAM from Crucial and although slightly Spartan in appearance, they are slim (and even slightly “shady” with its black colouring – sorry, no more puns now) at 136.76mm (length) x 35mm (height) x 8mm (width) which makes them a good fit for most systems, especially if you have limited space. Also this RAM does not support any RGB lighting so if you’re looking to showcase your system’s memory, this may not be the product for you.

Benchmarking

Benchmarking is subjective and is dependent on a number of factors such as motherboard, CPU and GPU – our test machine included the following components;

  • Motherboard: ASRock Z790 PG Sonic
  • GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 Ti EAGLE OC 12G
  • Cooler: Corsair iCUE H150i Elite Capellix (water Cooler)
  • Power Supply: Super Flower Leadex Platinum SE 1000W
  • Hard Drive: WD_Black SN750 SE NVMe SSD
  • Operating System: Windows 11

The first test was AIDA64 which provides system information, diagnostics, and auditing capabilities that has a very comprehensive memory test. It can also help troubleshoot memory, especially if you are overclocking at higher megahertz and you’re trying to find that right balance because you don’t want the memory to fall over during gaming or other performance driven applications. There is also a free version of AIDA64 available that I would recommend you try if you’re seeking to test your memory and benchmark it.

As you can see from the above results, there is a noticeable increase when you overclock the RAM from 6000MHz to 6200MHz. And what about where the Crucial Pro Overclocking DDR5-6000 32GB Dual-Channel Memory Kit ranks with other memory? Compared to its competitors, this DDR5-6000 kit ranks nicely in the middle and with the right system components and cooling, you should be able to push this kit even higher when it comes to speed. However it’s all about finding the careful balance of system stability.

Another test was PCMark 10 that uses tests based on real-world applications and activities which scores your system performance and even compares them to other devices. The developers of PCMark are UL who have been in the benchmarking game for a long time and are also the creators of 3DMark which tests your system as a gaming machine.

Again a noticeable difference with overclocking from 6000MHz to 6200Mhz, however in terms of its competitors, the Crucial Pro Overclocking DDR5-6000 32GB Dual-Channel Memory Kit was slightly on the lower spectrum of DDR5 RAM for this test.

For day to day use such as Windows 11, apps such as Microsoft Excel and Adobe Photoshop, surfing the net or just watching videos, including streaming, the RAM worked well without any hiccups or system glitches (e.g. crashes or apps closing), even overclocked at 6200MHz.

Final Thoughts

With a RRP of $109AUD (August) and given Crucial’s experience in the memory industry, their latest kit offers PC enthusiasts, gamers and streamers with an affordable DDR5 option that allows for overclocking, whether that’s via XMP (Intel’s Extreme Memory Profile) or EXPO (AMD’s Extended Profiles for Overclocking) or via user experimentation. It works well for games with a noticeable improvement when overclocked from 6000 to 6200.
