While completing
dissertation work in Morocco, student Andrew Marcus finds himself in
a foreign land and among people he sees with condescension, when an
alien armada -the Kibrani- invades Earth. From that moment his life
forever changes, not only because of the obvious menace that
threatens with annihilating the world's population, but also because
he will finally see humanity as a single people. And who will help
Andrew through this journey, you may ask? Well, how about a long
forgotten race of genies!
Using elements from the rich Arabian
mythology as backdrop, "Jinnrise" explores the magic realm of jinns as
they become Earth's last hope against the Kibrani. Tony Vassallo's
artwork in this introductory chapter is literally explosive, always
fluid, and made even more electrifying thanks to Timothy Yates' colors.
Despite its grandioseness, all the alien ships, and the flying genies,
it's clear that the premise of the title is to deliver a message of
unity, and any book that is entertaining and has a moral is worth a
shot. Great beginning!
