One of the world's best fantasy scribes
Raymond E. Feist returns with Jimmy and the Crawler, a novel
that is set after Krondor: Tear of the Gods and revolves
around Jimmy the Hand. Jimmy has been sent to Durbin by Prince
Arutha in order to investigate the mysterious Crawler, a powerful
and mythical underworld figure who would rival the Upright Man in
Krondor. Nonetheless, something is seriously wrong in Durbin and
Arutha wants to know what.
To assist Jimmy, Arutha also sends his
court magician Jazhara and the son of Pug the Magician, William in
order to investigate. However upon arriving at Durbin, the trio soon
discover that something is foul within these streets and there are
links to the Nighthawks. Unlike the hideous demons that they have
encountered in the past, the demon that lurks within Durbin is
unlike anything they have ever faced which will ultimately cost them
more than their lives. This demon could be the catalyst to the
destruction of Midkemia!
At 144 pages, Jimmy the Hand is a very
fast read but given the masterful writing of Feist, it's quite
understandable. Even though this novel is set hundreds of years
before the current book, A Crown Imperilled Feist
successfully manages to lay a variety of Easter eggs of the darkness
that is about to occur on Midkemia which makes you crave more.
Final Thoughts?
If you're a fan of Feist, than Jimmy
and the Crawler is a must have book and once again opens the
reader to the magical world of Midkemia and I sincerely hope that
this writer continues with more short stories set in this wondrous
world. Recommended!
