The Back-up Plan is a quirky romantic comedy
about Zoe (Jennifer Lopez), a woman in her 30’s who is desperate and
dateless. Unable to find the man of her dreams and badly needing to
become a mother, she decides to become artificially inseminated after an
amusing knock back from her male friend.
As she finally
fulfils her dream to become pregnant, she literally stumbles into the
man of her dreams while leaving the fertility clinic and as they
continue to bump each into other, their relationship blossoms.
Stan
(Alex O'Louglin), her new partner is a successful farmer who specialises in cheese
making and when he finds
out that Zoe is pregnant, a conflict grows in the relationship as they
both realise that parenthood is not an easy road.
In this predictable
romantic comedy, it’s fairly obvious how it pans out but even though it uses
one too many clichés, the movie is actually quite watchable and is the
perfect antidote for a boring Saturday night. Lopez is perfect as Zoe
and has some great scenes in the movie such as the scene where she is
walking out from the clinic or when she is shovelling food into her
face.
Lopez
really captures the character as does O'Louglin to an extent as Stan.
All in all, it's a fun movie that has laughs and heartbreaks along the
way. Tom Bosley (Happy Days) even shows his head in this film as Zoe's
future grandfather!

On Blu-ray, the video
