It's hard to believe that Risky Business has just celebrated
it's 25th anniversary and who would of known that the young Tom
Cruise starring in this movie would eventually become an
international phenomenon. As Warner Bros. continue to release some
classic movies on the definitive format of Blu-ray, Risky
Business is one of those movies that makes the grade and
interestingly enough, even after so long, the movie has aged quite
gracefully.
For those who have never seen the movie, it revolves around
college-bound 17-year old Joel Goodson (Tom Cruise), a teenager
whose life is soon about to be thrust into the world of adulthood.
While his parents are away, Joel finally breaks the mould of
trustworthy son and breaks his sexual frustration by hiring a
beautiful escort named Lana (Rebecca DeMornay) who teaches Joel more
than just sexual pleasure.
Unfortunately Joel becomes careless and has an accident with his
father's Porsche and in order to procure some quick cash for
repairs, he decides to hire the help of Lana and her fellow escorts
in order to "pimp" these girls to his male friends. Of course fate
throws Joel another spanner and when Lana's "pimp" discovers what
has happened, chaos breaks lose.
Risky Business features comedy, drama and some action which truly
highlighted the talents of a young Tom Cruise. Even though the movie
is at times a little dated, the premise holds up strong and after
all these years.
It
should be noted that the transfer to Blu-ray worked well, although
unfortunately cannot be compared to movies of today but
nevertheless, quite impressive for a movie of this age. Blu-ray is
the way to go and let's hope Warner Bros. continue releasing more
classic films of yesteryear.
