Remakes have become quite popular with movie goers and the latest movie to receive a 21st century face over is Prom Night that is directed by Nelson McCormick.

Unlike the original version, this new incarnation is more aimed at the “fast food” generation and revolves around Donna (Brittany Snow) who discovers that her father and brother have been brutally murdered after returning home. Forced to hide, Donna unfortunately witnesses her mother being murdered by Mr. Fenton (Jonathan Schaech), her teacher that leaves her psychological scarred.

As Donna attempts to move on with her life, the film skips three years and she is now a senior in high school who is still receiving counseling from the brutal sight that she witnessed.

When Donna’s boyfriend Bobby (Scott Porter) invites her to the “prom”, they soon learn that Fenton has escaped from prison and Detected Nash (James Ransone) believes that he is headed to find Donna.

Prom Night is definitely aimed at the younger generation of horror movies goers that is almost a classic teen terror with classic “horror movie” acting and quite a predictable plot which mimics the original film.

The Blu-ray version of Prom Night contains some stunning video quality with exceptionally vivid colours and sharp picture quality. Match that with an impressive Dolby TrueHD soundtrack which interacts well with the “scare” aspects of the movie and it’s quite an impressive disc, both with video and audio.

For those wishing for more, the Blu-Ray version contains some interesting special extras such as audio commentary, deleted scenes, an alternative ending and an amusing blooper reel. If you're over 30, definitely pass on this one, however for the younger viewers... check it out!
