Pina is one of those movies that really
makes you appreciate the human body, especially when it comes to dance
thanks to director Wim Wenders tribute to the late choreographer Pina
Bausch. Using state of the art photographer, this film takes the viewer
on a very powerful journey about dance that through high definition
filming, it makes you feel like you are part of this amazing production.
Mixing
both contemporary and traditional dance, Pina is truly a surreal
spectacular, especially with its surreal soundtrack thanks to Eduardo
Melo and Jorge Machado which creates this strange journey into the
subconsciousness of the mind. The routines are sometimes bizarre and at
times, breathtaking which has this real raw human emotion and atmosphere
to it.
Apart
from the contemporary dancing, Wenders successfully merges snippets of
Pina into the film from audio to video that definitely pays homage to
the great Pina Bausch who unfortunately passed away in 2009. Nonetheless
this is an outstanding dance documentary that will move you on many
levels. I loved the studio dance routines and also the outdoor pieces
which kept me captivated.
Video, Audio & Final Thoughts
Video
quality is outstanding on Blu-ray as is the audio quality but
unfortunately there are no special features included in this release. As
the original theatrical release was 3D, I sincerely hope that Hopscotch
will release a 3D version in this country because seeing it in 3D will
definitely be a wow moment! Recommended!
