Protective measures

Belkin a consumer electronics leader, have just launched their latest range of Outlet Surge Protectors for 2024 which are a must accessory to protect your electrical device in your home or office. As a fun fact, Belkin was founded on 18 April 1983 and 41-years later, they are still providing excellent consumer products. Even when I was working at Harvey Norman in the early 2000’s, I was selling Belkin to customers. Given that, Belkin continues to meet the changing needs of customers and their new line of surge protectors were made in consultation with their local ANZ team in order to ensure that the needs of Australians were met.
The new 2024 Belkin Range of Outlet Surge Protectors

  • 1,800 joules of surge protection to protect the life of your electronics and appliances
  • $30,000 CEW* for connected devices

4 Outlet Surge protector

  • 525 joules of surge protection to protect the life of your electronics and appliances
  • $40,000 CEW* for connected devices

6 Outlet Surge protector

  • 650 joules of surge protection to protect the life of your electronics and appliances
  • $50,000 CEW* for connected devices

8 Outlet Surge protector

  • 900 joules of surge protection to protect the life of your electronics and appliances
  • $70,000 CEW* for connected devices

So why is surge protection so important? Although Australia has very safe electrical systems in our homes and offices, dangerous power surges and spikes can literally destroy any devices connected to mains power. By having a surge protector installed, it will ensure that these spikes or surges are not moved onto your electrical devices so your TV, smartphone or laptop is not damaged.

Belkin are confident with their technology that they offer a Connected Equipment Warranty (CEW) of up to $70,000AUD (depending on model) to help repair or replace the devices on your electrical network if damage was to occur. Further, they come with a 2-year warranty for additional peace of mind. Another highlight of these devices is the long 2 metre cable and for modern devices, fast charging dual USB-C Power Delivery Ports which translates to 30W across both inputs. The boards have Onboard PPS (Programmable Power Supply) technology which detects the connected device in order to ensure the optimal amount of power needed for fast charging.

As a feel good factor, the Belkin range of surge protectors we received were housed in plastic free packaging that continues this company’s commitment to sustainability. What about setup? You just open the packaging, connect the board into the mains and presto, you’re ready to go. They also feel quite sturdy and it’s great that there is a built-in indicator light which lets you know it is working and more importantly when to replace the protector. Replacing? That’s right, surge protectors need to be replaced because each time it protects your equipment from an unwanted surge, its joules rating drops. You can even wall mount these surge protectors.

Additionally the boards have high-capacity metal oxide varistors (MOVs) that absorb the energy and release it as heat in order to protect your devices. According to Bellkin, it is also protected by an 11-point safety system that provides protection from overvoltage, over-temperature, overload, over-current, short-circuit and clamping voltage defense. Further, it offers 3-line AC protection (ground, neutral, and line) and is made from material that passes a Glow Wire Test at 850℃.

Final Thoughts?

The 2014 Belkin range of Outlet Surge Protectors have modernised these devices by including USB-C inputs that also feature a wide gamut of protective features in order to protect your precious electrical devices. Further they are well built and come with a range of surge protectors to suit your needs.
