Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 Review … redesigning perfection!

An evolution has just occurred for the new beats Powerbeats Pro 2 that are high-end wireless earbuds designed for athletes and fitness enthusiasts. They feature a comfortable, secure fit, sweat and water resistance design with powerful sound that is ideal for workouts and it now comes with heart rate monitoring for workouts. So with its LED optical sensors, they pulse over 100 times per second to measure blood flow and are surprisingly accurate. Athletes will definitely appreciate the real-time monitoring (compatible with a variety of apps – best with Apple Health) that does allow you to change your workout in order to maximise your exercises and of course recovery.

The Powerbeats Pro 2 also feature Apple’s H2 chip that is not only more efficient but provides a seamless connection to your Apple devices. Add in active noise cancellation and a transparency mode and these are the only paid of earbuds you’ll need during your workouts. They are also available in some funky colours to match your style that include Jet Black (reviewed), Quick Sand, Hyper Purple and Electric Orange with a RRP of $399AUD (Feb 2025). If you really want to stand out, the Hyper Purple and Electric Orange really pop due to its vibrant colours.

The Powerbeats Pro 2 have a sleek, sporty design and from an aesthetic perspective, look fantastic. Further, the earbuds are lightweight and comfortable to wear (20% lighter than its predecessor) for extended periods and they come with a variety of ear tips to ensure a perfect fit. The ear hooks on the Powerbeats Pro 2 are designed to keep the earbuds securely in place, even during intense workouts thanks to its reinforced a nickel titanium alloy for increased flexibility. I found that the earbuds stayed in my ears no matter how much I moved around, even being upside down.

The Powerbeats Pro 2 come with a variety of features that make them ideal for athletes. They are sweat and water resistant, so you can wear them during even the most intense workouts. The earbuds also have a long battery life (10 hours per bud), so you can listen to music for hours on end and with the case, it provides a total of 45-hours.  It also supports fast charging via “fast fuel” that with a 5-minute charge, provides up to 90 minutes of playback.

They feature intuitive on-ear controls, allowing you to adjust volume, skip tracks, and answer calls without reaching for your phone. Apple users will be pleased to know it supports on-touch pairing with these devices, including audio sharing and hands-free Siri. Android users will need to employ the Beats App that unlocks these features, including the ability to customise controls, check the battery status and my two favourites, locate my beats and over-the-air-updates.

Sound Quality: As Meghan Trainor so eloquently sung, it’s “All About That Bass” and the PowerBeats Pro 2 does just that by delivering a powerful, bass-heavy sound. This is ideal for workouts, as it can help to keep you motivated and further, the earbuds have a good amount of detail and clarity with clear highs and rich mid-range tones.

With that said, I was impressed with the sound quality of the Powerbeats Pro 2. The bass was punchy and powerful, but it didn’t overpower the other frequencies and lastly, the vocals were clear and easy to understand, and the highs were crisp and detailed. Music from artists such as Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter and Muse was like having your own personal rock concert.

Another highlight is the Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) technology worked a treat and really allowed you to focus on your workout and to become more immersive, the transparency mode merge the sounds of your audio and those of the real-world well.

Final Thoughts?

Overall, I was very impressed with the Beats Powerbeats Pro 2. They are a great pair of wireless earbuds for athletes and fitness enthusiasts which boasts a comfortable, secure fit, powerful sound, and a variety of features that make them ideal for workouts. As a bonus it also comes with 3-months access to Apple Music, so nicely played beats!
