Welcome back to the colourful world of Pokémon as Ash Ketchum and Pikachu take on their ultimate challenge as they head to the Unova League in order to face a plethora of enemies and hopefully for Ash, to become a true Pokémon Master. However with Ash’s hands full, Iris is having trouble with her own disc adventure that runs at a whopping 550 minutes.

It’s oozing with pure Pokémon goodness!

Compared to previous Pokémon releases, Adventures in Unova poses some new challenges for our heroes, especially the unexplored lands of Unova which is not only filled with danger but it contains some of the world’s most powerful Pokémon trainers that are both good and evil.

Ironically not much has changed in the Pokémon universe with the biggest change being fans growing up and moving onto something else. Needless to say, all the dynamics are still there, the confident Ash and his delightful Pikachu that together have some very impressive challenges to face. Iris also serves as a great companion to Ash and her stories are equally as interesting.

Given that, there are plenty of Pokémon tournaments for our heroes to partake and more importantly lots and lots of new Pokémon’s to encounter with of course plenty of comedy. I also like how the series digresses into different adventures and characters each episode which makes the series quite engaging to watch from start to finish. The only downside is by the time you’ve come to understand these new characters, the story moves off somewhere else. Nonetheless it’s what Pokémon is all about.

Video, Audio

The video quality is quite good for this release as is the audio, especially that catchy Black & White theme song that will have you humming this tune days and even weeks after you have finally finished watching this series. However the star of this release is the animation that almost jumps out of your screen and highlights the action scenes quite well. For a DVD release, it definitely borders on quality with only minimal artefacting.

Final Thoughts?

Pokémon: Black & White – Adventures In Unova And Beyond – Collection 1 is Pokémon at its best that contains high adventure, action and comedy that works on many levels and is ideal for viewers of all ages.
