Christmas Rhythm games short list 2015
By: Taylor Lyles
Christmas is a coming and what are you going to get for that music lover in your life?
With games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band making their way back into gaming culture by ways of rebooting both respective franchises, many gamers are well aware on how all rhythm based games are different in their own ways as each series has their own character/style, and game modes to play through.
Originally, Rock Band had more instruments available than Guitar Hero, which was just a guitar. Guitar Hero now offers microphones and drum kits. As of now, there is very little difference between the two save their respective playlists, and even those tend to have a decent amount of overlap. The major difference is now aesthetic. Rock Band 4 has very particular artwork just like Guitar Hero Live. Although, for my money, I like the Rock Band 4 controllers slightly better. It is also worth noting that Rock Band 4 plans to support the older controllers from its franchise, but Guitar Hero Live only supports its new plastic controller.
The Game, Rocksmith 2014 requires the use of the real tone cable, a USB cable that connects to the standard 1⁄4 in (6.35 mm) output jack of most electric guitars. Other guitars, such as acoustic guitars, may require additional hardware, such as a pickup. Though players can provide their own guitar, Rocksmith 2014 was also sold as a bundle that includes the game and adapter, an Epiphone Les Paul Junior guitar, strap, and 2 picks.
What makes Rocksmith 2014 stand out more than the other two rhythm franchises is the fact that Rocksmith 2014 allows players to ACTUALLY learn how to play the guitar or Bass while still retaining the video game feeling intact.
In terms of the controller each franchise has their own Guitar based controller with their own layout. Now Guitar Hero Live and Rock Band 4 controllers have different color buttons that you must press when that particular note and color appears on the screen when performing whereas the Rock Band 4 controller looks the most realistic out of the two.
Overall there are not much that stand out when comparing Guitar Hero live and Rock Band 4, and seeing that Rocksmith 2014 is something a lot more different and unique, as Rocksmith 2014 as mentioned before, productively allows its players to learn how to play real instruments. This in itself keeps Rocksmith 2014 highly relevant because someone that applies themselves to the game can take what they have learned into the real world, rather than just pushing colored buttons on a fake guitar.
All of the games are accessible socially. Bringing people together and just plain having fun. All of the titles have a large source of extra content that can be purchased in the way of songs from several different genre, so most musical tastes will find something worthwhile. This holiday season when you are making your choices, we hope this fast and dirty run down helps you make your choices easier.
