CHIEFS TAKE THE OPL CROWN AT LUNA PARK
After months of preparation and seven weeks of tough competition against Oceania’s best, Chiefs were crowned the League of Legends Oceanic Pro League Champions at Luna Park on Saturday night.
Ending with a 3 – 1 victory, Chiefs fought tooth and nail against Legacy in front of thousands of cheering fans at Luna Park in the Big Top and three big screen viewing areas located around the park. Summoners were also watching the action at satellite viewing parties in HOYTS cinemas across Oceania and at home on the Twitch or YouTube livestream.
“I feel absolutely incredible. I’ve never been more overwhelmed than I was when I hoisted that trophy in front of the crowd,” said Simon ‘Swiffer’ Papamarkos, Chiefs captain.
“I knew we had it after Egym set up that game winning play that allowed me to combo their entire team. From there, I knew we had what it took to close it out.”
The huge Chiefs victory capped off a day full of community activities that were spread throughout the park, including a Summoner Showcase art gallery, Jinx’s Tattoo parlour, cosplay competitions, skin code treasure hunts, champion design workshops, Q&A sessions and Champion themed games based on archery and bowling just to name a few.
Once the celebrating is over, Chiefs will be preparing to head to Istanbul, Turkey, where they will represent Oceania in the International Wildcard Qualifier. There, they’ll be up against Japan, Turkey and South East Asia, each vying for a place at Worlds.
