FIRST BAND TO BE ANNOUNCED
IN LINE-UP FOR MELBOURNE 2016
Today the Producers of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo announced that one of Australia’s most recognised Pipe & Drum Bands The Rats of Tobruk Memorial Pipes & Drums will join the 1200 performers set to march into Etihad Stadium in February 2016. The Rats are the first band to be announced in the line-up for this stupendous event.
Formed in 1960 as a ‘living memorial’ to the famous ‘Rats of Tobruk’ of World War II, this prestigious band has travelled to most Australian states for reunions of Tobruk veterans. They have been part of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Scotland on seven occasions, and the inaugural Kremlin Zoria Military Tattoo in Moscow in 2007. Three of the Band’s pipers have also performed as the lone piper at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
The Rats of Tobruk will perform in front of a full size replica of the Edinburgh Castle alongside the Massed Pipes and Drums of Scotland’s famous regiments and performers from around the world. Wearing their distinctive scarlet doublets and MacLeod of Harris tartan, this iconic Australian band will form part of one of the biggest entertainment events to ever to be seen in Melbourne.
