The Sims 4 Kit Reviews (Comfy Gamer, Secret Sanctuary, Casanova Cave)

EA has released several new kits for The Sims 4 recently: The Comfy Gamer Kit, The Secret Sanctuary Kit, and the Casanova Cave Kit. For the first time, two of these kits also include CAS (Create-a-Sim) items, instead of just Build mode items. Let me delve into these kits and their contents.

The Comfy Gamer Kit

My favourite kit of the bunch! The new Comfy Gamer Kit was designed by Sims YouTuber lilsimsie and makes references to her setup. But most of all, this kit contains many references to Sims games from the past, with many items and posters making references to classic Sims games. The kit brings in items and accessories themed around a desk and gaming setup, including a comfy gaming chair, a double-monitor computer, a microphone and keyboard setup, headphones, controllers, a desktop, and more. It’s a great kit to accessorize any gaming setup your Sims may have. Besides that, little bits and bobs referencing old Sims games will also suit a gaming room of sorts, with posters that have swatches for most Sims games (including The Sims: Medieval – my favourite!).

This kit only adds Build mode items, which I prefer, given they all come together to make for a great theme. For just 5 bucks, this is one of the few kits I would absolutely recommend.

The Secret Sanctuary Kit

This kit is themed around elegance and vanity, adding a jewelry box, vanity mirror, old record player, and, most notably, a secret bookcase door. Testing it out for myself, it makes for a very fun door and accessory to any household. The secret bookcase door is definitely the highlight of this kit. Other than that, there are small accessories as Build mode items, a decent couch and chair, but nothing outstanding besides the secret bookcase entrance.

Build mode is a bit lacking because this kit is one of the first to also include clothes and hair for your Sims. A fancy cocktail dress, wide pants, boots—nothing groundbreaking that isn’t in the base game or a previous pack. There are new, elegant clothes included but no hairstyles. Most of these clothes are also more suited for ladies, as the options for male Sims are lacking. Personally, the split between Build mode items and CAS is a detriment to the value of this kit. But if you enjoy your Sim looking and living in elegance, this kit is for you. That bookcase alone is worth the price!

The Casanova Cave Kit

The name speaks for itself. This kit is all about having your own man cave, with couches, coffee tables, a minibar, manly posters and collectibles, and a big TV to create a nice secluded place for your Sims. Opposed to The Secret Sanctuary Kit, this one is more male-themed. Build mode has some decent new items, the massive new TV being the highlight of this kit’s items, and Create-a-Sim adds an open robe, sleek shorts, a suit, a nice leather jacket, and more items for your Sims to enjoy.

The base game and other packs already have items in this style, so the kit doesn’t break any new ground. Once again, I feel like a mixture of Build mode and CAS items is a detriment to the value of this kit. But if you’d like to have your Sim enjoy soccer matches with his buddies in his man cave, this kit is for you.

Conclusion

These three kits are better than most we’ve gotten in the past, each fitting their theme really well. But The Comfy Gamer Kit is a standout with its references to past games and how all the items come together to make a full gaming room. Fitting, because complete collections of The Sims 1 & 2 were announced recently in celebration of the Sims’ 25th birthday.

The Sims 4 has also received several base game updates, adding free new items for both Build mode and CAS, a Sims games-themed event in which you can earn several classic items from the series’ history, refreshed base game lots, and more!

Now is a better time than ever to jump into the Sims, especially as an old fan—be it building your legacy out in The Sims 4 with these new kits, or revisiting the classics.

The three new Sims 4 kits are now available.
