Damian Syred’s Circus Royale Review (2025)
Damian Syred’s extraordinary Circus Royale returns to Waurn Ponds, Geelong, leaving audiences spellbound with a captivating blend of new and familiar acts. From the breathtaking aerial silks to heart-stopping high-wire bike stunts, and the mesmerizing magic to the exhilarating wheel of death, this performance delivers an unforgettable experience from start to finish. Prior to the show starting, the audience is treated to a 3D underwater hologram from clown fish to great whites as the circus is setup for the first act which serves as a nice distraction before the main event.
The magic acts are truly mind-boggling—how they manage to fit three performers into a tiny box platform defies human comprehension. Despite the performers’ impeccable training and expertise, you can’t help but cringe and gasp at the more perilous stunts, such as the wheel of death and the cage of death. One wrong move could spell disaster, yet these incredible performers execute each trick flawlessly.
Beyond the death-defying acts, there are performances of pure wonder and majesty, including contortion, aerial silk, aerial hoop, and the always entertaining hula hoop act. The grace and strength displayed by each performer are nothing short of astounding, especially the Yenta brothers from Ethiopia, who elevate human juggling to superhuman levels.
Before and after the show, there’s even more to enjoy. A dedicated area features animatronic dinosaurs, including a pterodactyl and a gigantic Tyrannosaurus, along with authentic fossils and a spot where budding paleontologists can hunt for treasures. Additionally, showbags, merchandise, and photo opportunities with the performers ensure that the younger audience members can take home cherished memories of the Circus Royale.
The grand finale features the daring Lion Brothers performing the Cage of Death, racing their motorbikes at high speeds in an enclosed wheel. To add to the excitement, one performer stands at the bottom of the cage, pulling off an almost magical wardrobe change.
Final Thoughts?
Damian Syred’s Circus Royale once again aims high and delivers a great family outing of some of Australia’s best circus performers… plus dinosaurs!
