Aussie Tay Tay!
With The Eras Tour unfortunately over … and yes it was the concert of the century, Melbourne was recently treated to the Ultimate Taylor Swift Christmas Tribute Concert (aka Merry Swiftmas) with Australia’s very own Emily Joy (Shake it Off Show) who successfully captured not only the spirit of Christmas but also that of Tay Tay herself. Like Swift, Emily Joy is a country/pop artist who is the perfect singer to headline this concert.
Upon coming onto the stage, she immediately captured the audience of the Athenaeum Theatre with her friendly and down to Earth persona, not to mention her flawless singing. With that said, a highlight of Emily’s singing is that she adds her own touch of uniqueness to these songs, opposed to being a carbon copy!
Paying homage to The Eras Tour, Emily chose some of the greatest songs from Taylor Swift’s career such as Cruel Summer, Love Story, Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me with the end of the concert dance number, Shake it Off as children (and some parents) all joined in. Emily also performs a myriad of costume changes throughout the concert like The Eras Tour and like Taylor Swift, she also plays the guitar.
After the song ‘22’, Emily gives an adorable girl in the audience her black fedora hat in classic Tay Tay fashion much to the oohs of the audience. Add in some fun choreography, dancing, lighting, an awesome band that includes a lead guitarist who is spouting a Travis Kelce #87 jersey, bass guitarist, drummer plus a backup singer and you could almost be mistaken in thinking that you are at a Taylor Swift concert but a much more contained venue – thanks Athenaeum Theatre!
Speaking of Christmas, Emily sings a few Christmas songs and of course… Taylor Swift’s Christmas hit, Christmas Tree Farm. Another standout moment of Merry Swiftmas was that Emily made the concert as interactive as possible such as pausing between songs to speak with the audience, choosing audience members for Taylor Swift quizzes (Taylor has 3 cats, 274 songs, was told by her publicists and label not to dive down the pop music path) and best dressed – in other words, this was a true celebration of the Princess of Pop herself thanks to Emily, her band and their team.
Final Thoughts?
Merry Swiftmas The Ultimate Taylor Swift Christmas Tribute Concert is indeed just that was thoroughly enjoyed by the children and their parents who attended a fun concert at the Athenaeum Theatre in Melbourne. So if you want that Taylor Swift experience until the next tour, make sure you keep an out for Australia’s very own Emily Joy who has a huge following on social media https://www.facebook.com/EmilyJoyMusic/ and https://www.instagram.com/emilyjoymusic.
