Totally Spies Cyber Mission Review (PS5)
Summary: Totally Spies Cyber Mission is for the younger spy (aka gamer)
3.5
Younger gamer!
The hit TV series, Totally Spies! Lands in the gaming world that is available on all platforms (Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 (reviewed), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC) as players visit the heart of Singapore to use all sorts of amazing spy gadgets in another precarious adventure to thwart a villainous plan. The game can also be played single-player or local multiplayer (up to 3 players) as you control spies Sam, Clover and Alex – and yes, it’s a game that is best played with other players in this co-op stealth adventure title.
.
While aiming for the younger gamer, developers Balio Studios have a noticeable job at recreating the aesthetics and heart of Totally Spies! and transferring this experience to the gaming platform. There are also a ton of cameos in the game that fans will thoroughly appreciate.
Further, each character that you play has their own strengths which adds an element of strategy to Totally Spies! Cyber Mission. Missions feel episodic that makes completion relatively easy. You do however need to use each spies ability to solve a certain puzzle, including how they defeat (kid friendly) like Clover’s freeze ability that doubles for lock picking. Controls are sturdy and well mapped on the DualSense controller.
Presented in third person view, this game encourages exploration and the gameplay is infused with puzzles, challenges and lite-combat. The other highlight of the game is using the various spy tools that your team has in order to solve puzzles and reach places that are not reachable for us mere non-spy humans. This is where the multiplayer component works well because you need to cooperate with the other player opposed to lots of black tracking in single-player. Combat is not difficult and is more stealth opposed to physical attacks but it serves as a nice distraction. The game does play better as a multiplayer game, however the gameplay does become repetitive which we found.
Graphically, Totally Spies! Cyber Mission looks like the TV series and all the characters. Animation is good and while the graphics are a little on the simple side, it comes together okay with the gameplay and of course audio. Audio complements the graphics and gameplay, including the sound effects and soundtrack. Oh, the voice acting is great!
