For Friends!

The next gaming evolution of the Mario Party series returns with the highly anticipated Mario Party Jamboree. Like the original Mario Party, Jamboree is a virtual board game that is firmly set in the Nintendo universe and is jam-packed with characters from these amazing worlds. Additionally, the game supports both local and online play with up to 20 players online.

As you may have guessed, Super Mario Party Jamboree is strictly a multiplayer game. Without other people, it’ll be like walking in your own virtual city with no one there. However as a multiplayer title, this is where the Mario Party series shines, as you play these wacky minigames with your friends and frenemies. The game is also oozing with minigames, both competitive and collaborative Mario Party fun. Some of the crazy Joy-Con motion control games can be quite hilarious as you flap your arms like wings in order to fly, hence the reason why some games with motion controls can be turned off and not available during your play.

There are also a handful of different boards to play, such as one that channels Mario Kart to the expansive super mall, or my favourite, Western Land, which will draw players of all ages into this immersive virtual board game. Like a board game, players get to choose their avatars, and needless to say, you are spoiled for choice. Speaking of being spoiled, there is a wide gamut of different modes and also the inclusion of Pro rules, which eliminate chance but where’s the fun in that? Additionally, there is a story mode which unlocks new boards as it allows you to explore freely.

Games, games, games, and more games. Super Mario Party Jamboree has over 100 minigames and seven board games, which really makes it a Jamboree. Of course, with so many minigames available for the player, some will be hits and some will be misses, but when you’re playing against other people, it’s all part of the fun. From games where you have to dodge lights to playing golf with the Joy-Con or having a snowball fight, there’s so much gaming content to be found in Jamboree. In terms of playing with other people, you definitely need at least four people to play with. If you don’t, the game will add NPCs, which makes the game a little boring as you wait for them to have their turn.

Graphically, Super Mario Party Jamboree channels the core of the Nintendo universe, or multiverse. The game is colourful and outrageous, and although it’s Spartan at times, it truly creates that Saturday morning cartoon atmosphere. Characters are alsop faithfully represented by how they appear in their other games, which again adds to the overall experience of this game. Add in sound effects, lighting, and other special effects, and when matched with the outrageous sounds and soundtrack, it all comes together perfectly with the engaging gameplay.

Final thoughts?

Super Mario Party Jamboree is a game for the whole family. It’s filled with over 100 minigames, responsive controls, and graphics that truly pay homage to what Nintendo is. This is one title that will have you coming back for more and more. Just be warned that some games can go for several hours, so if you have the time and are looking for something fun to play with your friends and family, Super Mario Party Jamboree is definitely that title on the Nintendo Switch.
