Beatbot AquaSense Pro Robotic Pool Cleaner Review

The AquaSense Pro Robotic Pool Cleaner by Beatbot is one of the world’s smartest underwater cleaners that comes with a wealth of features to help keep your pool crystal clear. It features 9-motors, front and back dual-roller brushes with 5500 GPH (gallons per hour) of suction power plus a 150μm ultra-fine dual filtration system which makes the AquaSense Pro go beyond some of its cordless competitors.

Further, it supports a 5-1 cleaning system that includes a water clarification system (kit sold separately), floor scrubbing, waterline cleaning, water surface cleaning plus wall climbing which ensures almost every nook and cranny is covered by this device. Speaking of smarts, the AquaSense Pro Robotic Pool Cleaner comes with the very handy Beatbot app that allows you to select cleaning modes, view the cleaning history and it even sends a push notification once it has finished.

Another highlight of the AquaSense Pro is that when it is finished, it has an auto-return feature which means it will take itself to the side of the pool and will float until retrieved. Generally, other robot cleaners will sit at the bottom of the pool and you will need to use a hook to retrieve them which adds another step to its owners – thankfully this is not the case with the AquaSense Pro due to its automation.

The device is powered by a Quad-Core 1.8GHz Processor with 20-smart sensors, including dual gyroscopes and dual ultrasonic AI sensors to assist with mapping, navigation and obstacle avoidance. Further it has Wi-Fi connectivity which is needed for the Beatbot app and when the device is connected to this, it is quite fast in terms of communication. Want some perspective on how powerful the AquaSense Pro is? The Apollo Guidance Computer (AGC) which took man to the moon had a 43KHZ processor, 32K of RAM and a 72KB Hard Drive, so yes the AquaSense Pro should have no issues in boldly going where no robot cleaner has gone before.

In terms of battery, it has a very large 10,400mAh Lithium-Ion battery that offers up to 9.5 hours of surface cleaning or 5 hours of floor cleaning which is great! There is also a water clarifying agent that can be added to the robot, however this was not included in our review unit but this helps in keeping your water at the right levels. A useful feature for those wanting to minimise water care.

The Unboxing

Well packed from Beatbot, the AquaSense Pro comes with everything you need to get started that includes the device itself, a hook, a charging dock plus documentation. The hook is used to retrieve the robot if it fails to return to an edge but in our testing, this did not occur at all, nonetheless a handy backup if something goes awry.

Aesthetically, the AquaSense Pro channels that futuristic robot appearance with its curves and striking combination of blue-grey and black colouring. On the top of the unit is the door to access the large filter basket plus there are a handful of buttons in the middle for manual controls. It is a heavy pool robot that weighs in at 11kg with dimensions of 451 (L) mm x 403 (W) mm x 263 (H) mm 1.48. Also, putting it into the dock is a very simple process, you just lift it onto the charging dock with its handle and presto, you’re ready to go.

Charging

In our testing, the AquaSense Pro never got stuck in our pool and when we cleaned the basket, there was always a considerable amount of fine dirt and debris that was collected by the unit. The robot did have some challenges in cleaning the corners of our pool, particularly the small edges which is a common theme of other robotic pool cleaners. In order to get around this – our solution was to use a pool broom to push the debris collected in the corners away from there and then let the pool settle. It took a few subsequent cleans but it worked! Also, Beatbot recommends that you don’t use the robot while your own pool filtration system is enabled which does move debris.

For setup, once you have downloaded the Beatbot app, this will take you through a wizard that connects the AquaSense Pro to your Wi-Fi network. You also need to put the robot on the charging dock and once paired with the app, it will inform you of the charging of the battery (e.g. 18%, 62% and so on). Once charged, you need to take the robot to your pool and put it on a flat surface once powered (middle button) for 5 seconds which calibrates the unit. The next step is to choose a cleaning mode and put the AquaSense Pro into your pool in order to do its cleaning magic.

The Cleaning

In early September 2024, Victoria Australia had some of its most powerful winds on record across the state that for many pool owners caused quite a bit of mess. For us, our pool accumulated quite a bit of dirt (in four years, this was the worst it ever was), including leaves from the neighbours – in other words, it was the perfect testing environment for the AquaSense Pro.

However, with that said, most robot pool cleaners are designed to keep an already clean pool clean. From the first run with the AquaSense Pro, it collected all the leaves from the pool, including quite a bit of debris that was on the pool floor. It did require subsequent cleaning runs, but I was quite impressed at the amount of debris and leaves collected.

The app also gives you access to six cleaning modes that includes;

  • Quick Mode (Floor x 1)
  • Standard Mode (Floor, wall & waterline x 1)
  • Pro mode (Floor, wall, waterline & Surface x 1)
  • ECO mode – Cleans entire pool floor and then every two days
  • Custom Mode (Floor, wall, & surface x 2)
  • MultiZone Mode – Beta Feature (Floor, wall & waterline x1)

There’s a nice feature on the app which displays the temperature of your pool, including the charging status when on the dock. The Beatbot app is also a very well made app with its logical design and everything is very accessible, so kudos to Beatbot for making it very user friendly.

While I love the app, I wish it would give more information on what the robot is doing in real-time because once the AquaSense Pro is in operation, it stops communicating with the app. This also means you can’t cancel the robot once it starts and I would have liked some kind of push notification to my phone during the cleaning process, however this is sent after it has finished.

Once the AquaSense Pro has finished its cleaning process, it will move itself to a corner of the pool for retrieval and it will start to expel the water once you are lifting it out. Cleaning the filter is a simple process that is basically open the door, take the filter out and then remove the inner filter and use a hose to wash them out. To charge, I did leave the robot out for the day prior to putting on the charging dock but charging is very fast.

Final thoughts?

The Beatbot AquaSense Pro Robotic Pool Cleaner aims high and sets a new bar for cordless pool cleaners. Undeniably, the AquaSense Pro offers some impressive features from its powerful cleaning technology and is far superior than those corded pull robots. Further, it has a considerable amount of cleaning grunt with a clever smartphone app. What about cost? In Australia, the Beatbot AquaSense Pro retails for $3499, however it is on special for $2799 so all this cleaning and “smarts” does come at a cost but if you’re looking for minimal user interaction, the AquaSense Pro should be on your radar, especially with summer just around the corner in Australia and the option of leaving the robot in the pool to clean every couple of days is a true game changer, especially with the large battery.
