As you can see from its highlights, the All-new Amazon Echo 8 Show is packed useful features to get the most out of your new AI assistant.
Aesthetically, the unit is reminiscent to previous models with some tweaking of its overall design but it is quite a minimalistic looking smart assistance that measures at 200 x 139 x 106 mm with a weight of just 1034 grams. It’s perfectly suited for any location, whether that’s the home, office or everything else where you need a smart assistant with a screen. To protect your privacy, it has a Microphone/Camera Off button plus a built-in camera cover. It also has free parental controls with Amazon Kids to protect our children by filtering explicit songs and even blocking shopping.
This current model has also received a power upgrade that [provides excellent responsiveness thanks to its Octa-Core SoC with Amazon AZ2 Neural Network Engine which includes displaying photos and videos. If you’re looking at video chats, this model comes with a 13 megapixel camera which offers sharp images and vibrant colours when matched with its screen.
Audio quality is another strong suit courtesy of its 2 x 2” full range neodymium drivers with passive bass radiator that also allows you to stream audio from your smartphone to this device. When connected to your smartphone, the Echo 8 supports AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile) for voice control over your phone. Additionally, you can stream audio to a Bluetooth speaker, provided it does not require a PIN code.
It also has a plethora of connectivity options that includes Wi-Fi connectivity (Dual-band Wi-Fi supports 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi networks), Smart home hub, Zigbee + Matter + Thread Border Router plus Bluetooth connectivity.

Setup
Setup is easy and can be done via the device itself which includes;
Step 1: Plug in Echo Show 8.
Step 2: Connect to the internet using Echo Show 8.
Step 3: Just ask Alexa for music, weather, news and more.
It took me about 5 to 10 minutes as it included a new firmware upgrade but no matter what your tech skills are.
Interface
Alexa has a whole wealth of skills such as being able to see your Ring Video Doorbell, video chats with friends and family, asking it questions, playing games, turning on smart technology – it’s basically limited by your imagination. This new device supports Amazon Photos that allows you to upload photos to this service that serves as a digital photo frame. This is done by uploading your photos via the Alexa app on your smartphone.
“Alexa, start Photo Frame.”
“Alexa, play Taylor Swift”
“Alexa, what is 2 metres in feet”
“Alexa, add milk to my shopping list”
“Alexa, set a 5 minute timer”
“Alexa, play Doctor Mike from YouTube”
“Alexa, play Please Please Please by Sabrina Carpenter”
“Alexa, what’s the weather today?”
“Alexa, what is a potcake dog?”
The All-new Amazon Echo 8 Show is a super responsive device with great photo and video quality, including decent sound. Even after a few weeks, it’s become a family favourite and our kids (plus the adults) love it. The interface on the device is also simple and with the images and videos, it really improves the experience.
Final Thoughts?
Once again Amazon have refined and tweaked their already great Alexa devices and if you’re looking to upgrade your existing Echo Shows or need a smart assistance with a screen, the all-new Echo 8 (Gen 3) is the device for you! There is also an element of future proofing because it comes with at least four years of updates, including security once the device is no longer available from its official stocklist, Amazon.
