SXSW SYDNEY UPDATE: Biggest Aussie Indie Games Showcase Ever Announced (full games list)

Today SXSW Sydney has revealed updates to its 2024 Gaming Festival Showcase.  🎮🕹️🖥️

With 60 new additions to the full line up, the program will shine a spotlight on more than 120 indie games from 33+ countries (46 from Australia and 5 from New Zealand), making it Australia’s largest indie showcase!

As well as celebrating the full breadth of creative indie talent through the showcase, the SXSW Sydney Gaming Festival is also excited to announce a number of new Conference Sessions, Commentary Sessions and Networking Parties – all purposefully curated to bring the gaming community together in Sydney this year.

Top sessions & parties:

  • PARTIES 🎉
    • 🤠 Cowboy Night: Fistful of Games: Dust off your hat, shine up your spurs, and finally justify to yourself why you own those chaps. It’s time to saddle up for an evening of western games at the Cowboy Games Showcase.
      • Banned phrases include: “Rootin’-tootin,” “There’s a snake in my boot” and “It’s really more of a neo-noir with classic western aesthetics
    • 🏆 Games & Screen Awards: Celebrate the achievements of game developers at the SXSW Sydney Games and Screen Awards. Join us to cap off the week at Fortress Sydney to acknowledge the best the 2024 games and screen programs had to offer.
  • CONFERENCE SESSIONS 🎫
    • 📜 Celebrating 10 Years of Elder Scrolls Online with Creative Director Rich Lambert: Delve into the enchanting world of Tamriel with Rich Lambert, the visionary Game Director behind the critically acclaimed MMORPG, Elder Scrolls Online (ESO). Discover the intricate storytelling, dynamic world-building, and innovative gameplay mechanics that have captivated millions of players worldwide.
    • 📸 History of Virtual Celebrities: Chances are, you have one or more relationships with virtual characters in your life today, but perhaps you don’t think of them that way. Teddy Dief – Co-Designer of Hyper Light Drifter & Game Director of We Are OFK, will walk through how virtual identity has progressed since the 1960s across television, music, games, and VTubers.
  • COMMENTARY SESSIONS 🗒️
    • 🩵 Rediscover childhood memories with the creator of Fishbowl: Join indie developer Rhea, as she takes you through her heartfelt coming of age game “Fishbowl”. Delve into the life of Alo – a 21 year old – on a unique journey of self discovery after the death of her grandmother.
    • 🔞 Who rated this? Challenging the need for classification in games: Are you a game developer frustrated by the outdated and cumbersome Australian games classification system? You’re not alone. Join industry experts and fellow developers to delve into the intricacies of this challenging framework. Discover the historical reasons behind its complexities and learn practical strategies to navigate and work around its limitations.
