2015 WEEK 3 RELEASES: REIGN, BOARDWALK EMPIRE & BANSHEE
REIGN: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON
Hidden between the lines of the history books is the story of Mary Stuart, the young woman the world would come to know as Mary, Queen of Scots. Queen of Scotland since she was six days old, the teenage Mary is already a headstrong monarch – beautiful, passionate and poised at the very beginning of her tumultuous rise to power. Arriving in France with four close friends as her ladies-in-waiting, Mary has been sent to secure Scotland’s strategic alliance by formalising her arranged engagement to the French King’s dashing son, Prince Francis. But the match isn’t signed and sealed; it depends more on politics and religion and secret agendas than affairs of the heart.
Prince Francis is intrigued by the fiery Scot, but like most young men, he resists the idea of settling down into marriage, especially when he has a history with a lady of the court and his own point of view on the wisdom of an alliance with Scotland. Still, an attraction between Mary and Francis is ignited.
Further complicating things is Bash, Francis’ roguish half-brother, who has a history of his own – despite his illegitimate birth, Bash is his father’s favourite. And now that Bash has caught Mary’s eye, a royal triangle may be forming.
While at French Court, fierce foes and dark forces conspire to sabotage Mary’s marriage to Francis and even threaten her life, until a mysterious shrouded guide becomes her ally. With danger and sexual intrigue around every dark castle corner, Mary rallies her ladies-in-waiting and steels herself, ready to rule the new land and balance the demands of her country and her heart.
Reign stars Australia’s own Adelaide Kane (Teen Wolf, Power Rangers RPM) as Queen Mary Stuart and Caitlin Stasey (Tomorrow When The War Began, Please Like Me) as Kenna, as well as Megan Follows (Anne of Green Gables), Torrance Coombs (Heartland), Toby Regbo (Treasure Island), Celina Sinden and Anna Popplewell (The Chronicles of Narnia).
Reign: The Complete First Season will be available on DVD (RRP $59.95) from January 14th.
BOARDWALK EMPIRE: THE COMPLETE FIFTH AND FINAL SEASON
Atlantic City, 1931: As the country struggles to cope with the Great Depression and the end of Prohibition looms, Nucky Thompson looks to legitimize himself through alliances with liquor producers, while rivals Lucky Luciano and Meyer Lansky seek to consolidate their power in the wake of Arnold Rothstein’s death and eliminate all competition – by any means necessary.
From Terence Winter, Emmy®-winning writer of “The Sopranos,” and Academy Award®-winning director Martin Scorsese, Boardwalk Empire is set in the Prohibition era and chronicles the life and times of Enoch “Nucky” Thompson, the leader of Atlantic City. The first four seasons took place during the 1920s. In the final season, which takes place in the depths of the Depression in 1931, Nucky recalls his Atlantic City roots and plots a post-Prohibition future.
Boardwalk Empire stars Steve Buscemi as Nucky Thompson; Kelly Macdonald as Margaret, Nucky’s estranged wife; Michael Shannon as former Federal Agent Nelson Van Alden, caught up in gangland conflicts; Shea Whigham as Nucky’s brother Eli, who went underground after killing a federal agent; Stephen Graham as gangster Al Capone; Vincent Piazza as gangster Lucky Luciano; Paul Sparks as gangster Mickey Doyle; Michael Kenneth Williams as Nucky’s former ally Chalky White; Gretchen Mol as Gillian, now battling her demons; and Jeffrey Wright as Valentin Narcisse, Chalky’s nemesis.
