Queenscliff Music Festival Review (QMF REVIEW 2022)

After a forced 2-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the Queenscliff Music Festival is back but best of all…

…it’s like it never missed a beat!

Hosted in the seaside town of Queenscliff for its 24th year, the Queenscliff Musical Festival (QMF) is a festival for people of all ages and whether your 9 or 90 (even younger or older then that), there’s something musical that will resonate with you no matter what your age. Compared to previous years, QMF 2022 may be missing a few of the larger acts however from a musical diversity point of view, it again cements itself as to why this festival is so popular.

Split over three days from Friday 25 November to Sunday 27 November 2022, the music of QMF was mainly contained to the heart of Festival on the corner of the Bellarine Highway and Gellibrand Street but like previous years, it spilled into the streets and venues of the Borough of Queenscliff. However the heart of the festival is still The Lighthouse “tent” where the larger acts perform and in 2022, this included the greats such as Baker Boy, Isabella Manfredi, John Butler plus Vika & Linda who all performed to perfection.

Of course for many, QMF is about the smaller acts and 2022 still held a wonderful eclectic collection of artists that included Cat & Clint, Tuck Shop Ladies, Monique Clare, Stefan West and Gabby Steel. Additionally the acoustics were fantastic and no matter which part of the festival you attended, the music and singing could not have been better. For us, our favourites included Mia Dyson and the Deep Heat Blues Band, however all the acts were amazing which was mirrored by people attending QMF for 2022.

Like previous festivals in Queenscliff, it is a very family friend festival with no issues whatsoever and for the younger festival goer, there’s a section for them that included games, rides and even a meet and greet with Bluey and her sister Bingo. Join in circus acts, see tight rope walkers and giant bubbles and again, a true festival for all ages!

In terms of music for kids, there was the Foot in Door competition of upcoming young musicians, The Beanies and Geelong’s fantastic Piano Bar legends that included Andy Pobjoy & Shandelle Cooke who took requests, with both children and parents alike bopping to the tunes. And for some lighthearted laughs, besides some of the performers was Comedian Mr Andrew Hansen from The Chasers fame!

Needless to say, the atmosphere was buzzing with a positive vibe and while camping is available close by, attendees are also treated to a wealth of food from all different cultures plus plenty to drinks to choose from. It’s also great that QMF puts the War on Waste on the agenda to ensure responsible recycling.

There is also a virtual must for QMF and that’s their very cool app that allows you to see who’s playing, where, including maps and a full line-up of the entire festival.

Final Thoughts?

Obviously it’s been a difficult year for festivals and performers but thankfully you can’t keep a good festival down and kudos to QMF for creating another truly memorable experience for people of all ages. While there was some annoying weather here and there courtesy of La Nina, for the most part, it was smooth sailing as these artists soared through Queenscliff!

Brilliant!
