Western philosophy
From James Norbury (Sunday Times best selling author) comes another truly immersive and emotional read about two friends, a big panda and a tiny dragon which channels the mysticism from the East but with a coat of modernity. Dubbed as a companion book to the original title, Big Panda and Tiny Dragon, the sequel reunites these two unlikely friends as they go on an extraordinary journey together to help Tiny Dragon find the answers to life that he needs to find to complete his being.
“Big Panda” he asked. “What is the unvierse?”
“I like to think it’s our friend” said Big Panda
“If we allow it to be”
As they leave the safe heaven of their temple sanctuary, Big Panda and Tiny Dragon commence their journey of discovery with element of modern Easter philosophy, succinct text that is accompanied by equally impressive images that are in colour and in greys which suits this story perfectly. Another theme in The Journey is the meaning and power of friendship, including coming together when the odds are against you. Further, it’s also about searching for that missing piece of our lives and while ignored by some, it is yearned by others.
There is also a very moving part of the book where Big Panda lets Tiny Dragon venture out into the storm and rather then going with him, the panda respects his friends need to go out alone and after a tight hug, the little dragon leave their cave to search for answers. As they come back together and continue travelling, where both realise that their world is quite mysterious which motivates them to see as many possibilities and unknowns as possible.
Final Thoughts?
The Journey Big Panda and Tiny Dragon is a heartwarming and philosophical journey about a friendship, the universe and everything in-between that is not only beautifully written but also illustrated which brings these characters to life. The perfect coffee table for people of all ages.
