MICF 2022: Lloyd Langford DILF Review

MICF 2022: Lloyd Langford DILF Review Tim Chuma
Score

Summary: While he may be funny enough on HYBPA that mainly seems to be the result of severe editing. Not enough material for a show.

Uhhh...

Melb Town Hall – Supper Room, Friday 8th April 2022

This was bound to happen sooner or later. I did enjoy Lloyd Langford’s appearances on Have You Been Paying Attention (HYBPA) but as Lloyd points out they have editing on that show so they are only showing you his best stuff (and occasionally bombs if it is funny). This show however is about 20 minutes of material padded out to an entire running length.

To give you an idea of how much it is padded Lloyd was able to stop the show to wait 5 to 10 minutes for a single audience member to come back from the toilet. Not only is annoying audience members a tired trope it would make Melanie Bracewell justified in punching him in the nuts for holding up the start time for her show, not to mention people who had other shows to go to after or trying to get dinner and not enough time.

Fairly tired pandemic and COVID lockdown material abounds and a lot of the jokes felt hollow especially the hating the Queen parts as there didn’t seem to be anything behind it.

This is not to say I didn’t laugh in the show but it was the easy joke every time and a lot of the time Llyod was more amused at his own jokes including the “AESOP” heckle from the audience. If you are laughing at your own jokes then something is wrong.

You’re welcome to go so see the show regardless if this is your thing but a lot of people are having trouble getting people this year so it is back to the bad old days already with the headliners sucking up all the attention and audience already and the festival can’t even be bothered to promote some of their own venues like Trades Hall. I once advised someone who had a show there to stick their head out the window with a megaphone and yell as it would be just as good.
