CIRKOPOLIS Cirque Éloize (Canada)

These guys are on a whole other level. It seems that everything is more: more difficult, more daring, more ambitious.” New York Post

From Montreal’s masters of the circus arts, Cirque Éloize, comes a bewitching new award-winning show visually inspired by Fritz Lang’s legendary film Metropolis and Terry Gilliam’s Brazil.

In a grey, industrialised world, a bored office worker’s imagination takes flight, transforming his workplace into a wonderland of juggling, jaw-dropping acrobatics and exquisite contortion.

In the heart of a stern and imposing city, giant gears and dark portals symbolize a mechanism that crushes individuality. Accompanied by an original musical score and video projections, 12 acrobats and multidisciplinary artists rebel against monotony, reinvent themselves and challenge the limits of the factory-city. In a world where fantasy provokes reality, the veil of anonymity and solitude is lifted and replaced by bursts of colour.

Bursting with stylish, spell-binding visuals, Cirkopolis is an astounding feast of gravity-defying acts, sinuous movement and transporting original music – a joyous blend of spectacle, creativity and skill from some of the best circus performers on the planet.

Cirque Éloize Creative Director, Jeannot Painchaud says: “Cirkopolis was imagined as a crossroads – between imagination and reality, between individuality and community, between limits and possibilities. Entering Cirkopolis is all about letting go and allowing yourself to be borne aloft by hope.”

“A particularly stunning amalgam of theatre, modern dance, original music, evocative projections and top notch circus skills.” Time Out New York

“There are much bigger shows than Cirkopolis… But I’d bet there aren’t more beautiful ones.”

New York Times

“Both funny and clever, Cirkopolis has so many scintillating and inspiring moments it’s no surprise it gets a standing ovation from a wildly enthusiastic audience.” The Stage (UK)

Cirkopolis is a production of Les Productions Neuvart Inc. The creation of this show was possible thanks to the support of these Cirque Éloize partners: Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC), Crédits d’impôt spectacle du gouvernement du Québec, Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, Conseil des arts de Montréal et Conseil des arts du Canada, The Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State University and Place des Arts.
