Air to air combat games are my jam, so I just had to check out Warplanes: WW1 Fighters. Exciting air combat in Virtual Reality!
At its core, the game is simplistic, but everything is there to satisfy the immersive craving any flight combat fan could have. Flying in VR in Warplanes: WW1 Fighters is absolutely an incredible experience. As you browse for a game to check out, do not let the low price tag on this game cause you to dismiss it. The game has huge bang for its buck.
This game has you covered no matter what style of gamer you are. In the settings, you can dial things back to an arcade style game, or even go whole hog and more of a challenge and tweak things to more like a simulator.
I would say for the utmost challenge and experience, try the game with its simulator settings, even at this setting Warplanes: WW1 Fighters can be a bit forgiving. Combat and flight tend to feel far more rewarding in this mode. From this mode, you manually take off and land, Aircraft get realistic damage that affects flight, enemy A.I. is aggressive and all HUD elements are disabled.
There are two campaigns for Central Powers and Triple Entente. So, British and German sides.
Not only are we up against other aircraft, from fighters and bombers, there are also air to ground missions. With targets ranging from ships and dry land targets such as enemy convoys and Anti Air Craft guns. There are also blimps and zeppelins to take down, and those zeppelins are a real beast to take down and protected by gunners. Some enemy aircraft also have a rear gunner, which makes taking them down far more dangerous. Over all the feeling of air combat in VR is absolutely off the charts incredible.
Graphics for the game are not bad, while not terrain is not super realistic; the aircraft in the game are nice to look at. Sound is excellent with machine gun fire and bullet hits.
Controls. Now here is the most surprising part in this game. At no time during game play do you even have to worry about a mouse or keyboard. Just your VR hand controls do it all. All you do is grab throttle in one hand and the steering yoke with the other and you are all set. The only thing I ran into when playing was arm fatigue from keeping my arms in a position as if I was using controls on a plane.
You can also rearm the front firing machineguns by hand. This was a nice touch. There are certain aircraft that also have mounted machine guns on a swivel. So if you can handle controlling the aircraft and grabbing the machine gun and aiming at a target while flying, this adds some extra tweak to the game that is a welcome challenge.
On some aircraft there are also flare guns, which can be used again blimps. This was a nice touch in the game and I rather enjoyed it. Some aircraft have small hand held bombs. While going after a ground target, you actually have to take one of the bombs and drop it manually by hand over the side of the aircraft. Very challenging but authentic. This is how some of the bombings took place during WW1.
Warplanes: WW1 Fighters boasts some 14 playable planes – from light scout planes to bombers. As you progress in the game, you can build up your squadron, switch between planes depending on the mission and even upgrade aircraft and crew stats to become terrors of the sky.
Buying and upgrading planes, achieved with in-game currency earned during missions. Your command will also reward you with medals, placed towards in game benefits such as lower pricing for aircraft or even lower cost for upgrading aircraft and crew.
Warplanes: WW1 Fighters is not be all end all of aircraft games, but the excitement it instills in its game play and simple control lay outs makes it a must have game. Home Net Games really shows what a VR game of this sort can do. Now if they will only bring a WW2 air combat game out in VR, my happiness will be complete.
Warplanes: WW1 Fighters one of the excellent games offered in VR Now. Check out more and how to get the game from Home Net Games.
