About

Geelong, Victoria, Australia February 2005

Launched in 2001 by co-owners, Tory Favro and Andrew Bistak, www.impulsegamer.com was started in order to be a source of entertainment and education about the latest games and movies. Founded to be a genuine resource for consumers rather than a mere puppet of the industry, impulsegamer has a reputation for being on the target when it comes to the thumbs up and down on the products that they review. Previous experience in the electronic entertainment industry is the grounding for impulsegamer, that and the desire to truly inform and assist the buying public in their purchasing decisions.

“Developers and Studios need to be made accountable for the product they release to the public.” says Favro, referring to previous releases from the gaming and movie industry when sneaking in inferior product as quietly as possible, often under the guise of “budget” games and DVDs. “Someone has to inform the public, as this stuff isn’t cheap to buy, and even a low quality product sold as a budget item is still a waste of money. Impulsegamer fills that void,” Favro continues, “possibly better than any other review source in the country. We cover the full spectrum of titles and essentially if it isn’t featured on impulsegamer then I can tell you right now that it would be a title or productto stay clear of in most cases.”

The reading public agrees as is proven in impulsegamer’s average of 2,000,000 hit count per month. “The format is a relief for most readers,” says Webmaster and Assistant Editor Andrew Bistak, “we made a conscious effort from the start to be accessible to all demographics and even more importantly, our reviews always contain content that everyone can understand and enjoy. We simply don’t get bogged down in the technical details, or if we do, we explain it. Our readers are well informed and the feedback from the public over our work has been overwhelmingly positive. That and the fact that we cover all formats and machines certainly hasn’t hurt us at all either.”

Along the way, impulsegamer has continued to garner industry support in their field and research has shown that reviews featured in impulsegamer have resulted in higher impact for the target market for the companies that supply product, being in the gaming industry, males aged 14-35, females, 18-28. DVD coverage has shown a positive surge as well for the popular format.

“Its been great,” adds Favro as Bistak nods his agreement, “The DVD area of the site is an exciting place to be at the moment with companies realising that we as consumers are demanding more and they are providing. Studios are creating the best work they have in ages, and now are creating unique content for the DVD format. It’s a good time to be into films and home cinema!”

Impulsegamer.com sees 2005 as a huge year with the introduction of a number of key pieces of hardware and are keen to see where it takes them. Hosting competitions and other forms of promotion, impulsegamer are certainly shaping up to be the go to site for the more discerning reader.
