Top Gear 50 Years of Bond Cars
Top
Gear presenter, Richard Hammond takes us on a journey that will
delight any Bond lover. However, 50 Years Of Bond Cars is not
just for car lovers or just for Bond lovers. It includes some very
interesting pieces of Bond history that will delight any film fan.
Hammond takes a look at many of the Bond cars and the way in which they
contributed to the film which they appeared in. Not only this, but also
how they came to be in the film they were in as it isn’t and never has
been as easy as just browsing a showroom. He lets us in on a few movie
secrets about the certain cars and takes us behind the scenes of the
latest Bond film, Skyfall.
There
are also exclusive interviews with Roger Moore and Daniel Craig, as well
as with Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever director, Guy
Hamilton.
In
true Top Gear fashion, Hammond also tests to see if some of the
more extreme features of the Bond cars will actually work in theory. He
tests the Lotus Esprit which featured in the 1977 Bond film, The Spy
Who Loved Me in order to see if it really can work underwater and he
also tests out the theory of an invisible car (or more like an invisible
mini-van).
One
great thing about this Top Gear special, is that it makes you
want to watch all the Bond films all over again and start to watch them
from the beginning if you haven’t already. It makes you appreciate how
much James Bond is a part of cinema history and makes you realise how
much influence the series of films have had on society. They have made
cars into superstars and have done wonders for the marketing of
particular car companies such as Aston Martin.
50
Years Of Bond Cars is not like a typical Top Gear episode, as
there is no Stig and no studio audience. However, it is no less
entertaining. The special plays out like a documentary which is
supported by credible sources and interesting pieces of information
about the Bond films and Bond cars. Top Gear fans will still
enjoy it as it does contain the same method of intriguing experiments
with the vehicles and Hammond is, as always, a great presenter who knows
his stuff.
50
Years Of Bond Cars is great fun and is entertaining at the same time
as being intriguing and informative.
